Discover the pleasure of learning to paddle a kayak or row a single person scull. Fontana Paddle Co. lessons teach you how to get the most from your paddling or rowing and prepare you for your next adventure race, paddling vacation, trip on Lake Geneva or on any of our wonderful area lakes. We open the world of paddling and rowing to novice paddlers and help seasoned water lovers get more from their time on the water.
Quick Start 30 classes are 30 minutes in length and cover basic paddling skills. This course is designed for paddlers new to the Fontana Paddle Company and new to the sport who might be a bit nervous about heading out onto the lake.
Quick Start 60 classes are 1 hour in length and cover basic paddling skills, as well as more advanced topics such as sweep turns and draw stokes. This course is designed for paddlers who wish to get a more in depth review of a range of paddling techniques, but who are not yet ready to commit to a full 3-hour lesson.
In our Intro classes, you’ll learn proper paddling or rowing techniques, improve your paddling efficiency and develop the skills you need to know to feel comfortable on the water. All equipment is provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. Intermediate classes help those who have paddling experience move to the next level by introducing advanced paddling strokes and refining basic ones.
Our objective in offering lessons is to help individuals build paddling/rowing confidence and personal paddling/rowing judgment. Safety in paddle sports often comes down to a matter of exercising good judgment and judgment is a combination of knowing your limit and being aware of factors affecting your situation: gear, weather, and other people. This level of awareness is most easily developed through time on the water and skill development. Our lessons jump start that development.
For all courses, we recommend that participants be comfortable in the water and know how to swim.
